Victor Herbert wrote hundreds of songs both located within theatrical works (operetta, musical comedy and opera). Over the years we have found the best way to organize individual songs is by voice. Hopefully you know your range so look for songs in your range category.
The other very important detail is that all of these songs are in their original key. Herbert wrote for particular singers 100% of the time. He was not happy with the wrong voice attempting to change the key of a song to fit a certain voice. We are not the web site to be exploring if you want to change a particular key so you can sing. (Example: Capt Dick in Naughty Marietta was written as a high tenor; Herbert would never have allowed Nelson Eddy or Alfred Drake to sing any of Capt. Dick’s or Adah’s songs for that matter.)

Here is a most rare sheet music photocopy of Victor Herbert’s “Standchen” or “Serenade” which began life as the 4th movement of his Suite for cello and orchestra, Op. 3 (1 – Allegro moderato, 2 – Scherzo, 3 – Andante, 4 – Andantino grazioso (the Serenade), and 5 – Tarantelle). The song is for soprano or tenorThe work debuted in Stuttgart, Germany two years after Victor Herbert had his solo cello debut at the age of 22 (1881), and thus, this was his debut at age 24 as a composer/soloist. The date was October 23, 1883 (the second regular concert of a subscription series of either the Liederkranz or the Tonkunstlerverein in Stuttgart.) This was Herbert’s earliest known composition. Op. 1 and Op. 2 appear to have been lost. The audience was so taken with the 4th movement that they demanded an encore. Five years and a move to America later, the melody had become so famous that E. Buek added words and the song was published first by Luckhardt, Berlin, 1889 and also by G. Schirmer, America, 1889, along with three other songs in a group entitled Four Songs, Op. 14 (1-“Fruhlingshied,” 2-“Ich Liebe dich,” 3-“Standchen.” [Serenade], and 4-“Das Geheimnis.”
