There are two types of librettos in this area: Photocopied and Clean Typed. Photocopied materials are from the original material and is often tough to read. Should you be purchasing an original libretto so you can work on improving it yourself, it will need to be typed again and rough guesses made on some pages. These are out of copyright and in the Public Domain. So you are free to alter them as you wish. This is the first time the general public has access to original librettos for the theatrical works of Victor Herbert. They were created by various authors including Harry Bache Smith, Henry Blossom, Rida Johnson Young, Fred DeGresac and numerous others. This is a photocopy of the Public Domain libretto for Victor Herbert’s The Singing Girl which premiered in October, 1899 with Alice Nielsen as Greta, the Singing Girl. An old document with a readability weakness, it has been placed on a list of librettos needing re-typing. There is no current time table for that occurrence. Also be aware that unfortunately there is one page missing from this copy – page 50 – not because of miscopying, but because at this time the only version available to the public is also missing that page. We are a hunt and anyone purchasing this problem will get the pesky page 50 as soon as VHSource does. In the meantime, a vivid imagination is encouraged.
