There are two types of librettos in this area: Photocopied and Clean Typed. Photocopied materials are from the original material and is often tough to read. Should you be purchasing an original libretto so you can work on improving it yourself, it will need to be typed again and rough guesses made on some pages. These are out of copyright and in the Public Domain. So you are free to alter them as you wish. This is the first time the general public has access to original librettos for the theatrical works of Victor Herbert. They were created by various authors including Harry Bache Smith, Henry Blossom, Rida Johnson Young, Fred DeGresac and numerous others. Public Domain research document. Here is Joseph D. Redding’s Scenario and Synopsis sent to Victor Herbert as they began work on the 1911 American Opera, Natoma. The opera was finished in 1910 and awaiting production so this document dates most likely from 1908 or 1909. Production was delayed by feud between Oscar Hammerstein and the Metropolitan Opera Company of New York City and first produced in Philadephia.
