There are two types of librettos in this area: Photocopied and Clean Typed. Photocopied materials are from the original material and is often tough to read. Should you be purchasing an original libretto so you can work on improving it yourself, it will need to be typed again and rough guesses made on some pages. These are out of copyright and in the Public Domain. So you are free to alter them as you wish. This is the first time the general public has access to original librettos for the theatrical works of Victor Herbert. They were created by various authors including Harry Bache Smith, Henry Blossom, Rida Johnson Young, Fred DeGresac and numerous others. Photocopy of Public Domain libretto for Victor Herbert’s It Happened In Nordland which opened at the Lew Fields Theatre, New York City, on December 5, 1904. The operetta starred Lew Fields (Weber & Fields fame) as Hubert Peepfogel and Marie Cahill as Katherine Peepfogel. It is an excellent example of an operetta libretto written specifically for a vaudevillian actor and relying heavily on vaudevillian materials for its relatively skimpy plot. The photocopy is made from a 106 year old document. The piano/vocal is available in the P/V section of the store. You will find more information regarding this operetta in Vol 7 July 2010 of the VHS newsletter.
