Description

Public domain song “I Don’t Know How I Do It” for character man Hon. Percy Algernon Slingsby from the 1913 operetta Sweethearts.  This may very well be the first patter song never meant to be sung.  Gilbert & Sullivan were masters of the “patter song” but they always treated theirs as songs to sung (the faster the better).  You’ll note that Victor Herbert never meant this song to be sung.  All words are treated as dialogue and placed above the staff instead of in the proper lyric location.   Orchestration exists and is coming by the end of August 2009.
