Description

This is the Public Domain piano/vocal for the song “An Educated Fool” from Herbert’s 1905 operetta Miss Dolly Dollars.  It is sung by Finney Doolittle, a secretary to Lord Burlingham who is, of course, mistaken for the Lord.  It’s a solo for tenor/high baritone in the key of F major with a range from middle c to F.  The character of Doolittle is a peculiarly brainy type who does not appear capable of functioning well in the real world (a definite forerunner to Joshua Pennyfeather (The Red Mill), the Hon. Percival Slingsby (Sweethearts), and eventually Sir Reginald Streibling (Eileen). Mr. Pennyfeather does not really have any solos, but the others have quite famous songs:  “I Don’t Know How I Do It But I Do” for Slingsby and “If Eve Had Left The Apple on the Bough” for Sir Reggie.
