This recording is of the 1908/1909 operetta Algeria/Rose of Algeria written by Glen McDonough (Babes librettist) and Victor Herbert (composer) and produced on August 31, 1908 at the Broadway Theatre in NYC. The operetta only two distinct lives: 1) as Algeria in 1908 and as 2) Rose of Algeria in 1909. The music is essential the same in both versions with only the libretto undergoing revision.
